After much anticipation, Fulton County announced the Groundbreaking of its new South Fulton Training Center, which will serve adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
The new South Fulton Training Center will provide adults with developmental disabilities a safe and welcoming space for vocational and life training skills, therapeutic sessions, and life enrichment services. Families will benefit from affordable, high-quality community-based care.
County officials celebrated construction kickoff on Tuesday, October 29 at 9 a.m. at 475 Fairburn Road, Atlanta, GA 30331. The new South Fulton Training Center represents a significant investment in the future of Fulton County and the people it serves.
In September 2024, the Fulton County Board of Commissioners approved $3,655,925 from the Fulton County Urban Redevelopment Authority (FCURA) bonds and the Fulton County General Fund for construction costs.
This project will create a new space for the Training Center by renovating a former behavioral health facility whose services relocated to another space. The previous South Fulton Training Center facility is currently closed, and clients are served from another facility.
The renovated center will feature a variety of new resources for clients, including a computer lab, specially designed sensory room, nursing station, and other enhancements designed to meet the needs of its clients.
“Fulton County’s new South Fulton Training Center is an investment in the wellbeing of our residents,” said Chairman Robb Pitts. “We want to create a space that allows our clients to truly thrive, offering a range of robust resources and space to accommodate each individual and ensure they receive the services they need.”
“We are dedicated to building a community where every resident has the resources and support they need to reach their fullest potential,” said Vice Chair Khadijah Abdur-Rahman. “The new South Fulton Training Center is more than a building—it’s a testament to our commitment to being South Strong. It represents progress, inclusion, and a brighter future for our families and individuals with developmental disabilities here in South Fulton.”
Construction of the South Fulton Training Center will begin this fall. The new Center will open in the Summer of 2025. For more information about the new South Fulton Training Center, please call the Department of Behavioral Health & Developmental Disabilities at 404-613-7013.
