The annual District 5 Homestead Town Hall was held at the New Beginning Senior Center in Fairburn. Hear more from District 5 Commissioner Marvin Arrington Jr. We're trying to give our seniors and residents the information they need to apply for homestead exemptions. The homestead exemption deadline is April 1st of every year. We want to make sure that particularly our seniors who may qualify for an additional exemption at age 62, 65, or 70, that they have and are armed with the information that they need in order to make that application so that they're only paying their fair share. I look at exemptions like coupons; it's a coupon on your property tax. You get your basic homestead exemption as one coupon. If you're a disabled veteran, or surviving spouse of a veteran, or fully disabled, there are other exemptions. In Fulton County there are 18 different taxing jurisdictions, and they all have their own set of exemptions.
