The Fulton County Board of Health and the Georgia Department of Public Health are among the public health entities closely monitoring the spread of monkeypox. Monkeypox is a rare disease. As of Tuesday, June 14, only two confirmed cases have been reported in Georgia and both were associated with international travel. Currently, we recommend testing only for those that have developed a rash, most commonly on the buttocks and genital areas, possibly with flu-like symptoms (fever, headache, muscle aches, and exhaustion).
You do not need to be tested if you have not exhibited any of those symptoms, particularly if you do not have a rash.
People at the highest risk for developing monkeypox have at least one of the following risk factors:
• Those who had contact with a confirmed monkeypox case in the last 21 days, or had contact someone who as a rash that is suspected to be monkeypox
• Those who had close or intimate in-person contact with individuals in a social network experiencing monkeypox activity ( i.e. men who have sex with men)
• Those who traveled internationally in the past 3 weeks
If you feel you need to be tested for monkeypox, please contact your healthcare provider or local health department. For more information on monkeypox, please visit the link below on the website for the Centers for Disease Control:
